[A pretty clear image of the apocalypse had been painted in Kiwi's mind, all those years ago. From their memories of what they had seen to their nightmares of what was to come, it was easy to expect a world bathed in darkness, where monsters crept through a black abyss and tore through homes and people alike, and the earth trembled with a helpless, hopeless dread, knowing the end that was to come.

There was absolutely none of that to be found as Will crossed the dimensional border. In fact, it's an absolutely lovely day on this hill he's found himself on. The most beautiful day that could ever be imagined. The sun is at its noon peak, hardly a cloud in the sky, letting the horizon stretch for miles to see the rolling green hills that surrounded this little region. Everything was green, and the air was warm and fresh with scents of the late spring. The path was surrounded by trees, and somewhere in the distance, birds sang bright, melodic little tunes that mingled and lingered in the air.

Washed Up on the Beach

Not quite sure how you got here? There are a few starter options to consider:

1. Shipwreck: Did it go down in a storm? Lose a fight with pirates? Ignore the warnings of a competent lighthouse-keeper (or see no warnings at all due to a competent one)? Whatever the cause, your ship is lost and you survived, somehow. This applies to lakes and rivers, too, which can be just as tempestuous with a bit more potential for settled, "modern" life springing up around them.

2. Vacation Misfortune: Surfing lesson or session gone wrong? Lose your kayak and your paddle? Not quite the island tour/lakeside town fishing expedition/flight across the sea you expected? Jumping from tall seaside cliffs doesn't always have an easy ending, either. Maybe you were caught in a riptide and managed to get through it, but you definitely aren't where you started...

3. Lost at Sea: Can coincide with a shipwreck, but you might also be an intrepid explorer seeking new and uncharted islands, or someone on the run from an overbearing family or one too many failed assignments. Or you just plain can't read a map and work a sextant at the same time, and your compass doesn't point north.

4. Walk the Plank: Of course, for the less ethically inclined there is always piracy in its various forms. A prisoner or a renegade acting for his own benefit can be forced off the ship into the sea and whatever awaits him there; a stowaway or thief aboard could meet a similar fate.

5. Crossing Lines: Speaking of the criminal realm, if you run afoul of the wrong crowd in a port city, or you are the wrong crowd and you screw up one time too many, there's no law in that lawless profession saying they can't truss you up and toss you off the nearest dock. Hopefully you find some benevolent help after that.

6. Too Close to Land: What if the water is your natural home? Drawing too close to the shallows leaves you subject to crashing waves and sandburn, among other things; stay for too long as the tide ebbs, and you might get beached. Weather is probably a factor for you, too, as the hot sun and changing tide leave you dry quickly, or a storm rolling in makes the surf churn and pull.

It doesn't have to be one of these! There are near-countless variations on how and why and with what means one ends up washed up on the beach (unconscious, or drifting in on a makeshift raft, or swimming for shore, or looking for new discoveries - or any combination thereof), all of which include just a bit of suspension of disbelief. Maybe it's tropical; maybe it's frigid. Be bold. Be creative. AU stuff, one person in another's canon stuff, completely unrelated but you think it would be cool to play this out stuff: everything goes.

Setting up your initial post with some kind of scene suggestion and/or your scenario preferences is recommended, but not required.

Tag other people. Become the rescuer, actively seeking to assist after an accident or rumor you heard, or a fellow survivor/explorer, or someone taking their beachcombing find captive (alone or as part of a larger collective), or someone sent to fetch the missing person for straightforward or nefarious purposes. You don't even need to be the person making the discovery! Maybe you're introducing the washed-up victim to life in his or her new environment instead, a walk about town or a lesson in how to do the hard labor required of such vagrants. This isn't an explicitly smut or violence-ish meme but it could happen, so please take note and warn or describe permissions accordingly.

[The wind was getting worse by the minute, and the bard could barely see an inch in front of their nose. Every step forward through the knee-deep snow was like pushing through molasses, even without the whole weight of the unconscious witch against their side. They didn't know how long Miriam had been out there, facedown and half-buried in the snow, or how she even made it this far with her injuries. All they knew was that as soon as they tripped over the broom that fell a few feet away, all other priorities were out. Forget the overseer, forget the hero, even forget the impending doom. The only thing that mattered was getting her to safety.

They'd been following the silhouette of something in the distance, having no other landmarks to go by, and just as they thought their half-frozen legs were going to fall off, they'd finally reached...an enormous castle? It made the bard dizzy trying to see all the way to the top. This was far too big to be the overseer's castle...right?

Well, either way, it was the only shelter they could find. Readjusting Miriam's arm around their shoulders, they pushed themselves forward, using the poor weather-beaten broom as a crutch to balance themselves against the limp body they were dragging. The gap under the door was big enough that the two of them could squeeze through, and inside the bard couldn't help but exhale a misty-breathed sigh of relief to be out of the wind. 12. TIRED. You've had a hard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?

[Marcella came in with a giant plush, it looked battered, fluff hanging out of some broken stitches and dirt on him, there was an eye patch over one of his soft brown eyes. Scruffy hair and tattered vest with a shirt and pants. Poor thing looked like a nice bed like plush but he was so beaten. She brushed it away as laid it on the bed and ran out of the room to go ask mom if she can clean him up soon.

As soon as the toys were all alone. Arthur, who was that tattered and dirty giant plush, shakily got up as he looked around the room. Getting up toward the window. Trying to see around the neighborhood as he frowned]

[The external wounds were dressed and healing, but the best doctors in Birchpointe couldn't heal Undyne's wounded pride. And for that matter, there wasn't really anything they could do about her newly impaired vision, either. So all they could do now was let her rest, which left her nothing else to do but sit in the dark kicking herself and contemplating her life. Neither she exactly wanted to do right now.

How could she be so stupid? One clumsy little slip-up she could easily have avoided if she wasn't so cocky. One mistake and now here she was in a hospital bed with a layer of gauze hiding where her left eye should be, pointedly ignoring the discharge paperwork on her bedside table. Nobody else was ever going to let her live this down, either. Maybe she could claim it happened in the Chaotic attack on base that several of her platoon were still recovering from, if she was convincing enough? She always was a bit of a braggart, and she kicked a lot of ass in that raid.

Not that it changed the fact that she had to figure out where to go from here. A soldier with no depth perception had no career there anymore. And that stung even worse...the military had been her life since she graduated from high school, and with one stupid fumble she ruined it for herself. What was she going to do now?

She sighed and sank into the way-too-soft pillow. Maybe if she got some sleep she'd find out this was all just a bad dream. If she even could fall asleep with the constant footsteps outside, the incessant beeping of the monitors by her head, and the unsettling knowledge that the door to her room was within her new blind spot...]
